Keith Porter is director of Communication and Outreach and executive radio producer for the Muscatine, Iowa-based Stanley Foundation.
Porter holds an M.S. in communication from Illinois State University, where he served as a graduate teaching assistant in broadcasting and speech communication. He began his career in radio in 1982 in Effingham, Illinois, and later worked as a reporter and announcer in Normal and Bloomington, Illinois. Porter was a finalist for the 1995, 1996, and 1997 Livingston Award for Young Journalists. During Porter's tenure at the foundation, his work has been honored with several recognitions of excellence in broadcast journalism including the National Press Club, Society of Professional Journalists, National Headliner Awards, and the United Nations Correspondents Association.
Porter served as the executive producer and segment correspondent for the award-winning radio documentaries "The Russia Project" and "Children of War: Fighting, Dying, Surviving." He also coproduced the 2004 award-winning public radio documentary "UNder Fire: The United Nations' Battle for Relevance" and the 2005 award-winning "Security Check: Confronting Today's Global Threats." Most recently he coproduced "24/7: The Rise and Influence of Arab Media" which aired on over 330 public radio stations across the United States.
He has reported from Austria, Cambodia, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kosovo, the Netherlands, Qatar, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, Tanzania, Uganda, and United Arab Emirates.
Porter serves as editor in chief of the foundation's quarterly publication Courier and directs the foundation's media and citizen outreach efforts.
