Task Force Members
The task force will examine the purpose and role of US power in ensuring its own national security while creating a stable, just, and sustainable global system in the 21st century.
Led by former Assistant Secretary of Defense Lawrence Korb, Senior Fellow for the Center for American Progress and Senior Advisor for the Center for Defense Information, the task force consists of about 25 members who convened for 7 half-day meetings from September 2002 through May 2003. A full-length report will follow.
The overall mission of the task force project was to address the purpose and role of US power in ensuring its own national security and in creating a stable, just, and sustainable global system in the 21st century.
The task force considered the moral, economic, political, and military role of the United States in shaping the new global security environment in special light of two recent events: the successful US military operation in Afghanistan and the Bush administration's recent release of its US National Security Strategy, which emphasizes the use of US power and includes the possibility of preemptive military strikes.
