Central Asia Educator Seminars

Central Asia Educator Seminars were a series offered in January of 2002 to address educator needs pertaining to the events of September 11 and US action in Central Asia. Events were held in Elkader, Dubuque, Bettendorf, Burlington, and Cedar Falls, Iowa. Post-September 11, teachers have been confronted with a barrage of questions and concerns from their students about Afghanistan and other Central Asian nations, the Middle East, and Osama bin Laden. The seminars were designed to give teachers at all grade levels more in-depth information about this region of the world, including its history, culture, and US involvement there. Experts provided a broad overview of the critical issues facing the region and answered attendees' questions. The seminars also offered new resources for classroom use.
