Serbia and the Challenge of Regional Integration

A Euro-Atlantic Initiatives project by the Stanley Foundation

Mission

To expedite Serbia's integration into the Balkan region and, eventually, the Euro-Atlantic community.

Goal

To prepare an "Action Plan" that provides recommendations and develops a network of people and organizations to facilitate and expedite Serbia's reconciliation with and integration into the Balkan region.

Outcome

The project will strive to foster and create an environment of popular thinking in Serbia for constructive approaches to its integration and reconciliation in the region.

Methodology

Task Force	US experts who will conduct the research, frame the issues, and identify the tasks to be addressed.
Advisory Group	Experts and opinion leaders from Serbia and Eastern Europe who will help frame the issues and propose possible recommendations to the Task Force.

Phase I	Organize Task Force Identify issues to be addressed: Identity Democracy and governance Humanitarian issues Reconciliation	Completed February 2001
Phase II	Task Force will recruit an Advisory Group, mainly from Serbia. Task Force will meet with Advisory Group and consult with them on the issues and processes to resolve them. The Action Plan will be published.	Completed March 2002
Phase III	Hold a series of workshops in the region following recommendations in the Action Plan.	Begin 2002
