Keep Track of Your Representatives
In a 2004 survey, over three-fourths of Americans believed the United States should participate in UN peacekeeping missions. And 84 percent of elected officials believe the same thing. What is so surprising is that only 39 percent of elected officials believed the public agrees with them.
Any way you look at the numbers, they don't add up.
Our elected officials need to know what we think of US policy. Whether the policy addresses UN funding, clean air legislation, or relations with China, our elected leaders need to know how we feel. And the only way for them to know is if we tell them.
Citizens for Global Solutions maintains an On the Hill section on its Web site. Resources there include summaries of legislation relevant to the United Nations and an easy-to-use "ratings guide" that shows how your senator and representative voted on key bills.
The United Nations Association of the United States of America offers Washington Report which monitors developments on Capitol Hill and in the executive branch regarding issues important to UN operations.
The Library of Congress provides comprehensive data on all legislation and on votes placed by all members of the US House and Senate. The latest contact information for all members is also available. Visit the Legislative Branch site to find information on your congressmen.
