UN Helmet
Sixty years after its founding, the United Nations remains an imperfect but crucial instrument of international peace and security. Only by reestablishing the United Nations' role in our changing world can we as a global community begin to respond to the shared challenges and opportunities that lay ahead. Appropriately, the United Nations' secretary-general and its member states have come to recognize the need for change, the need to renew the organization's mission, and the need for internal reform.

Challenges to the United Nations
Resources are scarce, critics often disparaging. But the United Nations has learned to work through these obstacles in order to enhance peace and security around the world.

The UN—Working Against Threats
Today's threats will be tomorrow's if not addressed. Because they are interconnected, the United Nations is defining the most important threats and bringing member states together to fight them.

Responding to the Changing World
International treaties, regional organizations, and close interstate cooperation will provide some of the primary means of combating international threats. But how else can the United Nations respond to global threats?
