Blogs We're Reading

If you want to know even more about the modern Arab world, the blogosphere contains no shortage of commentary on the issues simmering in that region. Here are just a few of our favorites:

The Arabist
The Arabist is a blog on politics and culture published and maintained by a Cairo-based journalist, with contributions from journalists and researchers working in the region.

Saudi Jeans
For a more conversational look at current Arab issues, the Saudi Jeans blog, maintained by a 22-year-old student at King Saud University, links to plenty of academic, journalistic, and other resources.

Baheyya: Egypt Analysis and Whimsy
And if you want to know more from a woman's point of view, check out the blog "Baheyya: Egypt Analysis and Whimsy," which contains lots of photos from recent street demonstrations in Cairo. According to the Web site, Baheyya is "an Egyptian female name that has come to stand for Egypt itself."

* A blog (short for Web log) is a Web page that features posts in reverse chronological order. Blogs often act as a person's running commentary on topics ranging from personal diaries, political opinion, celebrity gossip, anything in between, or all of the above.

** Links to blogs are provided only as a resource for readers. The Stanley Foundation does not endorse individual Web sites.

New

24/7 Logo "24/7: The Rise and Influence of Arab Media" is a new public radio documentary hosted by David Brancaccio. As a part of the Stanley Foundation's Security in an Era of Open Arab Media, it examines the dramatic expansion of open media in the Arab world and the security implications this phenomenon has for the United States.
